Building a Brand Voice That Works With AI
How to define brand guidelines that help AI generate on-brand content every time.
One of the biggest concerns about AI-generated content is brand consistency. How do you ensure that AI-created copy sounds like your brand and not generic marketing speak? The answer lies in thoughtful brand voice configuration.
Start by documenting your brand's core voice attributes. Are you professional or casual? Technical or accessible? Serious or playful? These fundamental characteristics guide AI generation.
Concrete examples are more effective than abstract descriptions. Instead of saying 'be friendly,' provide examples: 'Instead of saying "Submit your information," we say "Let's get started together."'
Create a list of words and phrases to use, and equally important, words to avoid. If your brand never uses jargon, specify that. If you always refer to customers as 'members' or 'partners,' document that preference.
Consider your brand's relationship with superlatives. Some brands confidently claim to be 'the best' or 'industry-leading.' Others prefer understated confidence. Make your preference explicit.
Test AI outputs against your existing approved content. Does the AI-generated copy feel like it belongs on your website? If something feels off, adjust your guidelines accordingly.
Regular review and refinement is important. As your brand evolves, update your AI configuration to match. Treat brand voice settings as a living document, not a one-time setup.
