LinkedIn Ads personalization playbook

This playbook maps LinkedIn targeting (function, seniority, industry, company list) to landing page messages, so a VP of Finance and a RevOps manager clicking ads from the same campaign do not land on the same generic pitch.

When to use it: Use it when you run LinkedIn campaigns to several audiences but send them all to one landing page.

1. Turn targeting into named audiences

  1. 1List each campaign's targeting: job functions, seniorities, industries, company size and any matched company lists.
  2. 2Give each audience a short slug you can put in a URL, for example finance-leaders, revops, it-security.
  3. 3Write the single job this audience hires your product for, in one sentence.

2. Message per audience

Audience slugWho they areWhat they care aboutHeadline angleCTAObjection to answer
[finance-leaders][CFO, VP Finance][Cost, risk, forecast accuracy][Outcome in money terms][Book a demo][Implementation effort]
[revops][RevOps, Sales Ops][Data quality, tool sprawl][Fits the stack you already run][See integrations][Migration from current tool]
[it-security][IT, Security][Access control, data location][Security posture first][Read the security page][Compliance documentation]

3. Put the audience in the URL

  1. 1LinkedIn does not pass targeting to your page, so add it yourself: utm_source=linkedin&utm_medium=paid-social&utm_campaign=[campaign]&utm_content=[audience-slug].
  2. 2Use one ad set per audience so the URL and the audience always match.
  3. 3Keep the slug list in your UTM naming sheet so everyone uses the same values.

4. Guardrails

  • Personalize on the role the visitor was targeted by, never on personal data about the individual.
  • Do not imply you know who the visitor is ("Hi, Jane"). Speak to the role.
  • Keep the same offer as the ad. Changing the offer between ad and page breaks trust.

5. Measure

  • Report conversions per utm_content value, not only per campaign.
  • LinkedIn traffic often converts later. Track assisted conversions or pipeline, not only same-session form fills.

Automate this in GetIntent

In GetIntent, create a rule per audience (for example utm_content = finance-leaders) with a short instruction such as "Lead with cost and risk". GetIntent adds the matching rule to its personalization context and rewrites the headline, supporting copy and CTA within your brand voice. The Intent Builder generates tagged URLs so the parameters stay consistent.
